Produce Safety Rule Grower Training
The Produce Safety Alliance (PSA) developed a standardized national produce safety training program to prepare fresh produce growers to meet the regulatory requirements in the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Produce Safety Rule, the PSA Grower Training Course.
This course is one way to satisfy the FSMA Produce Safety Rule requirement outlined in § 112.22(c) that requires ‘At least one supervisor or responsible party for your farm must have successfully completed food safety training at least equivalent to that received under standardized curriculum recognized as adequate by the Food and Drug Administration.’ At this time there are three options for taking this course:
- In-person course is a traditional classroom style course with instructors, typically presented in a single 7-8 hour training day. The Produce Safety Collaborative offers several courses around the state every year. Please refer to the calendar for an upcoming class near you.
- Online delivery course is a three-week course that can be completed at your own pace. The online course is expected to take 15-30 hours for successful completion. The standard enrollment cost is $450.
- Remote delivery course is a course led in real time by instructors delivered with video conferencing software, such as Zoom or Webex. This is a temporary option that is being supported during the COVID-19 outbreak. Offered in Colorado during the winter and otherwise upon request.
